Ace High
– A hand with no pairs and ace as the highest card


Ace rag
- A hand made
out of two hole cards , an ace and a card lower then a ten


Aggressive
– A playing style that involves mostly betting
and folding in opposed to calling


All in
– When a player has no more chips to wager he is
considered all in


Bad beat
– Losing a hand after being ahead when most of the
money was bet and called


Back door flush
– Hitting consecutive cards of a certain suite
on the turn and river to complete a flush


Big blind
– The bigger forced bet, poster by the player two
to the left of the dealer button


Bluff
– Betting a weaker hand with hopes of making the
winning hand forfeit the pot


Board
- The five community cards make up the “board”


Buy-in (Cash game)
– The amount of initial money required
for playing at a table


Buy-in(Tournament)
– The cost of participation in a
tournament + house fee


Bet
– To place a wager


Call
– to equal the bet made by a previous player


Check
– To pass on the opportunity to place a bet


Cash out –
To redeem your chip value back into cash money


Connected cards
– two subsequent cards ( i.e. 7-6 , J-T etc)

Donkey – A weak and losing poker player

Deuce – another name from the digit 2


Draw
– To try and improve your currently inferior hand


Drawing dead
– when no card in the deck will make your hand
the winner of a showdown


EV
– Expected value , The average return on each action a
poker player makes is his expected value, a positive expected value translates
into winnings and a negative one into losses

Fold equity – The odds of your opponent folding his hand


Free card
– A move most common in limit hold’em where a
raise with position on the flop allows for a free turn card for the drawing
hand


Free roll
– A tournament with no entry fee but cash prizes


Gutshot
– A straight draw with only one potential completing
card


Grinder
– A solid player trying to make solid profit


Hand
– The best 5 card combination of the seven available
make a players hand


Hand range
– the range of hands a player might play in a
certain manner (as opposed to assigning a certain hand to your opponent)


Heads up
– facing a single opponent


Hole cards
– The two face down cards dealt in the beginning
of every hand to all participating players


Implied odds
– To Include the money that will go into the
pot on future bets into the current calculation


Induce a bluff
– Tempting an opponent into betting a weaker
hand


ITM
– short for “in the money” as in cashing in a tournament


Kicker
– The unpaired card used to decide the winner in case
of two equally paired hands
